CTN Spotlight on ... Honei!
CTNX: Hello Honei, it's a pleasure to speak with you! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
HS: My name's Honei (yes, you heard that right...the sweet kind), and I just graduated from Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna Beach, with a BFA in Animation. Earlier this week, I moved 3,000 miles away to start work at Blue Sky Animation Studios! It's been a incredible experience so far!
CTNX: When and how did your relationship with CTN begin?
HS: Oh wow, a while ago. I would say my freshman year of college, so back in 2011 when I first learned of CTN and attended.
CTNX: What have your positions been with CTNX and what have you learned most from your experience working with CTN?
HS: My first year I was just an attendee as I had missed the deadline to be a volunteer. But since then I have attended every year as a volunteer. The first two years I was a student volunteer, and from then on I have been a Lead. There's so much to learn, not just as an artist, but while working the convention floors. Gotta be quick on your feet, anticipate problems and really do all you can to make it the most enjoyable week for all. It comes with it's challenges, but I prefer that.
CTNX: What are your ultimate career goals?
HS: Secret. Just kidding! I love production and all things leadership related, so I hope to continue and grow on this route.
CTNX: How does working with CTN help you meet those goals?
HS: The wonderful people! Definitely my favorite part of CTN. The art is amazing, but what's even more unique is the people behind it. It's one thing to be on your computer and research your favorite artist or studios, but a whole different situation when you meet all of them in person. Networking is key!
CTNX: What have you learned most from your experience working with CTN?
HS: Resting is a myth. There's just so much going on and new challenges seem to occur every minute, that you're really on your feet majority of the time. At least for me it was that way, but I work best like that so I prefer it. Problem solving is also key (and comfortable shoes!) Also, don't be afraid to talk to people, especially your favorite artist or a recruiter. They don't bite.
CTNX: What do you look forward to most in the coming years regarding your career?
HS: I just embarked on such an exciting journey that i'm still on cloud nine from everything.I really look forward to growing and understanding my job to "perfection" (though that really doesn't exist...or does it). I'm in a unique position and one that will only happen once, so i'm taking it all in one step at a time and hope to one day look back on all those steps I took to get me to where i'll want to be.
CTNX: It was a pleasure to talk with you Honei!
